How to Price Your Pedigree Kittens: Why You Don’t Have to Follow the Crowd
If you’ve been in the cat breeding world for any amount of time, you’ve probably noticed something: kitten prices are all over the place. Some breeders price their kittens low just to move them fast. Others stick to the average going rate in their region. And then… there are breeders like me—where our kittens are priced at the top tier, intentionally.
New to breeding? Check out my guide on starting a cattery the smart way before diving into pricing.
in this podcast episode, we’re going to walk through some of these strategies so you know exactly how much to sell your kittens for.
If you’ve caught my podcast, you know I’m all about raising top-tier pedigree kittens and doing it my way. Today, I’m spilling the tea on how I price my kittens—and why I’m one of the priciest breeders in the country, by design. Spoiler: it’s not about copying everyone else or pinching pennies. It’s about supply and demand, luxury vibes, and owning the fact that making money is okay.
When I started breeding, I assumed I’d price my kittens like everyone else. Big mistake. I quickly realized I didn’t want to blend into the crowd.
You don’t have to charge what the breeder down the road does. Pricing pedigree kittens isn’t a race to the bottom—it’s your chance to stand out. For me, that means premium prices that scream luxury and exclusivity. And trust me, it works.
I want to walk you through how I approach kitten pricing, why I’ve positioned myself as one of the highest-priced breeders in the country, and why you shouldn’t feel guilty about making money doing what you love.

Pricing Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All
First things first—there’s no magical number that everyone should be charging for their kittens.
Too often, I see breeders getting stuck because they’re basing their prices on what others in their area are doing. But here’s the truth:
- You are not obligated to match your competition’s price.
- You are not running a charity.
- You are a business, and it’s okay to run it like one.
- You can make a profit, even in a recession
Your pricing should reflect three core things:
- Supply and demand in your market.
- The quality and uniqueness of your kittens.
- The image and experience you want to portray.
How To Price Your Kittens
Here’s things to consider when building your pricing model:
1. Supply & Demand
Monitor demand closely. Know how many inquiries you get weekly, how many people are waiting, and how quickly kittens are reserved. If demand exceeds supply (which it often does), your prices reflect that. It’s basic economics.
If people are lining up to get one of your kittens, it’s a sign: your price can (and should) be higher.
If you don’t have a big demand for your kittens, then you need help crafting your brand and your marketing message. Learn how to do that in our marketing Course.
2. Breeding Costs & Profit Margin
This one’s non-negotiable: Know your numbers.
Here’s a quick bullet list of real costs breeders often forget to factor into their pricing:
- Veterinary care (routine + emergency)
- Genetic testing & health screenings
- High-quality food & supplements
- Litter and cleaning supplies
- Registration fees
- Website and marketing costs
- Time (yes, your time is valuable!)
- Stud service fees
- Unexpected expenses
And after all of that? You still deserve to make a profit. You’re running a business. Profit is not a dirty word.

Tips for Breeders: Price Your Way
Ready to rethink your own pricing? You don’t have to copy me—or anyone. Whether you’re aiming for luxury or just want a little more wiggle room, here’s how to make it yours:
- Know Your Worth: Add up costs, then ask: What’s my time, expertise, and love worth? Price accordingly.
- Play with Scarcity: Smaller litters or unique traits can justify a bump. Test it out.
- Sell the Story: Highlight what makes your kittens special—bloodlines, care, vibe. Make it irresistible.
- Own It: Don’t apologize for profit. You’re running a business, not a charity.
Why You Shouldn’t Feel Guilty About Pricing High
There’s a weird mindset in the cat breeding world—like it’s taboo to make good money.
I’m here to tell you: It’s perfectly okay to price your kittens at a premium and be profitable.
You’re providing:
- A healthy, well-socialized kitten
- Ongoing breeder support
- Peace of mind through health guarantees
- Years of expertise and commitment to the breed
Buyers aren’t just paying for the kitten—they’re paying for you and everything you’ve put into the process.

Wondering if it’s time to adjust your kitten prices? Here are some clear indicators:
- Your kittens are selling out immediately (you may be underpriced).
- You’re struggling to cover your costs and time investment.
- You’re attracting buyers who aren’t aligned with your values (price influences clientele).
- You’re positioning yourself as a premium breeder, but your prices don’t reflect that.
